Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQ
The answers provided below are based on answers previously given to customers' questions.
Will I get seasick on Key West Original Full-Day Watersports Adventure?
If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy.
Who is allowed to drive a jet ski in Florida?
Under Florida law, participating in any commercial jet ski tour is considered to be renting a personal watercraft (jet ski). Most people who were born on or before January 1, 1988, are allowed to rent and operate a jet ski in Florida waters without any special training or license.
If you were born after January 1, 1988, and need a Florida Boating Safety Identification Card, it is easy to get one with an online course and test at Boat-ed.com. You can take the course and get your temporary Certificate of Completion ahead of time to save time on the day of your tour. Simply bring your Certificate of Completion and a valid photo ID with you on the day of your tour. If you need to take the test before your Key West Original Watersports Adventure, please arrive at the departure point 1 hour early. All drivers must be sure to bring a valid photo ID.
A person (over 14 years old) who was born on or after January 1, 1988, must have in their possession a valid photo ID and a boating safety identification card or a temporary certificate issued by the commission in order to operate any vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or greater. Boating safety cards issued by other states are acceptable.
A person must be at least 18 years of age to rent a personal watercraft in Florida.
It is unlawful for a person to knowingly allow a person under 18 years of age to operate a rented personal watercraft (a second-degree misdemeanor).
A person who was born on or after January 1, 1988, and is at least 18 years old may operate a rented personal watercraft if they are accompanied by a person who was born before January 1, 1988, OR a person who is at least 18 years old and has a Boating Safety Identification Card. The accompanying person must be “attendant to the operation of the vessel and responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and for any violation that occurs during the operation of the vessel.”

There are no legal age limits for snorkeling. We have found that age 5 or 6 is a good age to learn the basics of snorkeling, however, it’s entirely up to individuals to make the best choice for their family.
Is there an age requirement for parasailing?
Yes, the minimum age to parasail is 6 years old. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver prior to boarding the vessel. At Cool Key West safety is our number one priority. The minimum weight required for parasailing is roughly 90 pounds. If the flyer is less than 90 pounds, they will simply fly tandem with someone not to exceed roughly 450 pounds combined weight. Weight requirements may differ due to wind conditions.
I've never snorkeled before, will I be OK?
First-time snorkelers can be assured of one-on-one instruction and assistance. We find introducing folks to our world very rewarding!
How old do I have to be to drive a jet ski by myself?
You must be at least 18 years old to operate a rented jet ski in Florida waters. If you were born on or after January 1, 1988, you must have in your possession a Florida Boating Safety Identification Card (or a Boating Safety Identification Card from another state) along with a valid photo ID to drive a rental jet ski by yourself.
If you need a Florida Boating Safety Identification Card, it is easy to get one with an online course and test. That is the legal amount allotted due to proximity to the airport is 300 – 350 ft.
Do you have to know how to swim in order to parasail?
Although it is best for you to be comfortable in the water, you do not have to know how to swim. Each guest is provided with a buoyancy compensator (BC) that will assist with flotation.
Can we use our own snorkeling gear?
The snorkel gear we use on Cool Key West tours is high quality and for your protection, the equipment is sanitized after each use. However, if you feel more comfortable using your own snorkeling equipment, feel free to bring it on the tour. Please note, there is no discount for providing your own equipment and we can’t be responsible for any lost or damaged items.
Can I save time at check-in by doing the safety test online?
Yes! You can save 30 minutes at check-in by doing the safety test online at Boat-ed.com. Just be sure to bring confirmation that you have passed the test.
This course is for Florida residents and visitors who do not already possess a valid boating education certificate but who wish to operate a jet ski on Florida waters.
Can I go snorkeling if I cannot swim?
Yes, this is possible, as long as you are comfortable going into the water. All Cool Key West snorkeling tours adhere to strict safety regulations and have been designed to be enjoyed by all.
Your safety is our #1 priority, which is why:
You will be wearing a flotation device at all times.
On many tours, there is a stairway from the boat into the water so you won’t have to “jump” in!
There are trained staff in the water and watching from the boat at all times.
For these reasons, we believe that even non-swimmers can have a wonderful time on our snorkeling trips, however, the final judgment call is yours to make. Please note we do not give refunds if you decide not to snorkel on the trip.
Can anyone ride a jet ski on the Key West Original Full-Day Watersports Adventure?
Almost anyone can go on a jet ski as a driver or passenger. The only exceptions are made out of concern for the health and safety of our guests. Those who CANNOT participate in jet skiing include anyone who is pregnant, under the influence of alcohol or drugs or affected by any medical condition that may put them at risk when operating or riding a motorized craft on the open water.
If all guests on a single jet ski were born on or after January 1, 1988, at least one guest must have a boater safety license. This should be obtained in advance at Boat-ed.com.
We are committed to providing the best Key West jet ski experience and the most fun in the safest way possible and appreciate your respect for our rules as well as for the Florida regulations for boating and water safety.

Overall great experience. Efficient operation at the barge, we always had something fun available to us - jet ski, para sail, banana boat, water trampoline. Crew was very friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed the boat ride to the reef. We went snorkeling on a reef near the old lighthouse. The water was only 15 ft deep and clear visibility to see the marine life. Dolphins swam next to the boat. Next, we went para sailing and had a birds eye view of Key West! The crew was so much fun taking photos and telling jokes. Then we jet skied and went on a wild banana boat ride with Captain Mike. We laughed non stop especially when I fell off and struggled to get back on. Lastly, Cody cut our wrist band for the jet ski and the bar was opened. Nothing like a glass of wine to get rid of that salt taste in your mouth from the ocean. Great crew great day! Food was good too.

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience,
regardless of circumstance and ability. To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level.
These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible
to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more. This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific
disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML,
adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments. If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email
Screen-reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with
screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive
a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements,
alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website.
In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels;
descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups),
and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag
for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology.
To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on
as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Disability profiles supported in our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments
Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.
Browser and assistive technology compatibility
We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users.
Notes, comments, and feedback
Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs, there may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
