Description
Cool Key West puts a Miami to Key West Day Trip together with an exciting Key West snorkeling tour for a day of fun and adventure that will be the star attraction of any Miami area vacation. This high-value day trip package takes you sightseeing on the amazing Overseas Highway down the full length of the Florida Keys island chain to Key West.
You will experience one of America’s most renowned scenic drives, go snorkeling in the rich tropical waters of Key West where live coral and incredible marine life attract thousands of snorkelers and divers annually, then return to Key West just in time for that town’s legendary happy hour specials.
Get a free pickup from your hotel then board a modern luxury touring coach with comfortable raised seating and panoramic viewing windows to launch an epic road trip heading south out of Miami on U.S. Highway 1. After passing though Florida City, the last town on the Florida Mainland, the coach crosses the Southern Glades wilderness wetlands and begins traversing narrow land bridges between blue-green bays. You are now on the Overseas Highway, and the swamps and bushlands of Crocodile Lake National Wildlife refuge welcome you to romantic Key Largo.
Following what was once the route of Flagler’s Overseas Railway, a unique early 20th century rail line to Key West built by oil baron Henry Flagler, the highway takes in expansive views of emerald water rolling out to the horizon on all sides. The ride is constantly interesting as the coach rolls through resort towns, along water-side marinas, past beach parks, and from Key to Key across one bridge after another.
About an hour and a half down the Keys, the awesome Seven Mile Bridge comes up and the coach seems to leap into the air over emerald water. Featured in Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious series of action movies as well as other films, the Seven Mile Bridge is one of the most incredible bridges in the world.
Breathtaking miles later, the Overseas Highway comes back to land on uninhabited Little Duck Key. Crossing 2 more small Keys and 3 short bridges, the road hits Bahia Honda Key and State Park, the unofficial entrance to the Lower Keys. You are now in the Caribbean tropics, where rustic villages, secluded harbors, bushlands, and mangrove island-dotted channels and bays recall the history of the old Florida Keys. For centuries, explorers, pirates, bandits, and pioneers of the marine wilderness all searched for fortune amongst the treacherous maze of reefs, sandbars, and islands.
Arriving in Key West around noon, you will be guided to the port where a sleek power catamaran is ready to embark on a snorkeling safari. The sea around Key West is always changing, but you can relax in the shade or catch some sun as your expert captain evaluates conditions and makes the short run out to the area that promises the best snorkeling conditions for the day. Once the boat is at rest, helpful crew members get everyone outfitted with high-performance snorkeling gear and a special stairway to the water drops from between the vessel’s twin hulls.
First-time snorkelers get all the extra help they need, and within minutes everyone is spreading out through the calm, clear waters over the only living coral reef formations in North America. Coral alternates with stone and white sand as hundreds of fish in all shapes and colors flit in every direction.
Float at ease and move with a few flips of the fins – snorkeling is a very peaceful and relaxing sport that is actually effortless in comparison to swimming. Stay quiet and alert to spot sea turtles or the larger game fish species that Key West is known for.
Back on deck, a freshwater shower is waiting, and you can rinse off the salt then kick back with a soft drink, beer, wine, or even a margarita as the boat heads home. Go ahead and start happy hour because you will have some time back on land to explore Old Town, do some shopping, grab a bite, and have a few more drinks. No worries with a professional driver at the wheel and an easy cruise to get back to Miami at about 10pm, just in time to hit the clubs if you want to celebrate an excellent Key West day trip.
