Sarabeth Levine opened her first tiny New York bakery and jam shop in 1981 with her husband Bill. It was an instant hit with New Yorkers, and by 1986, the couple had two more restaurants open. The fresh scratch-baked goods and the sweet homemade fruit preserves were irresistible, the awards and press followed, and Sarabeth’s now has 12 restaurants and bakeries - 10 across New York, one in Tokyo, Japan, and this unique Key West take on the Sarabeth’s concept of simple, homemade perfection. Owner David Case worked with Sarabeth Levine for decades before heading south to give Sarabeth’s a home in a new community. David took a retired synagogue in a historic 1800’s-vintage building and transformed it into a fresh take on the original urban restaurant/bake shop from up North.
Sarabeth’s Key West is the prototypical neighborhood restaurant that locals all know and visitors are lucky to stumble across. Inside and outside dining at this pastel-painted architectural classic set amidst grand restored mansions mean enjoying all-American comfort food in a pure Old Town Key West setting. Cheerful rooms and a dog-friendly garden patio are great places to try the island’s best fresh-baked muffins with jam made from from a 200-year old recipe. The clean, straight-forward menu will please everyone with dishes like buttermilk pancakes made from scratch, a Key West shrimp and bacon omelet, home-style tomato soup, green chili pepper 3-cheese macaroni and cheese, and an old-fashioned Sunday fried chicken dinner with all the fixings. Join the discerning locals who have made the place their own, and find your personal favorite at Sarabeth’s Key West.
