Another off-the-beaten path choice. But don’t let this Cuban restaurant’s location fool you: El Siboney is one of the top contenders for most popular Key West restaurant. In season the swelling mass of people waiting to get in regularly spills into the street. And that’s part of the attraction. Because as tasty and rewarding the food is, eating at El Siboney if anything is a social experience: You will see your next-door neighbor or person you met on the plane down at El Sib. The fare is strictly Cuban comfort food, a selection of affordable choices which all come with plantains, black beans, yellow rice and freshly toasted-and-buttered locally-made Cuban bread. This is the restaurant you can go to with your entire family. You may (will) wait but everyone walks out full and smiling without hardly a dent to your wallet. Think Cuban version of neighborhood Italian and you have a good idea of what to expect—and cherish—from this enormously popular Key West mainstay.
